A message from Nicolas and Alina Vandenberghe, founders of Citizens of our Planet.

“Citizens of our Planet was launched in 2021 with a pledge of one million dollars. Since then, we’ve supported organizations all over the world, but the Russian invasion of Ukraine has added urgency and focus to our efforts.

We are working rapidly to evacuate our employees from Ukraine as well as their families, but have decided that it is not enough to just support our own. Therefore, we have launched a fundraising effort working with major VCs and tech companies throughout the U.S. and Europe to get funds to those who need them.

Donations we receive will be distributed to organizations helping displaced people and aiding in humanitarian efforts in Ukraine – with the majority going to our key partner, Techfugees, an org that has been supporting and helping the deployment of responsible technology products and services for and with displaced persons across the world since 2015.

Funds raised that are not directed to the Techfugees will be used to support local grassroots efforts in Ukraine and bordering countries including:

- Establishing shelters along the Romanian and Polish Borders

- Paying for buses within Ukraine to help people safely evacuate 

- Building coalitions of private sectors leaders to amplify our impact

These efforts are the most urgent currently as larger orgs like the Red Cross are not yet able to mobilize fully within Ukraine as of yet.
